Compressed Air Pressure Drop: Causes and Fixes

Pressure drop between the compressor and the tool wastes energy and starves equipment, but it is usually easy to diagnose.

Common Causes

Undersized piping, clogged filters, restrictive fittings, long runs and leaks all reduce pressure at the point of use.

Measuring the Drop

Compare pressure at the compressor discharge and at the tool during full demand to find where the loss occurs.

Fixing the System

Clean or replace filters, upsize narrow piping, shorten runs and repair leaks to recover pressure without raising the setpoint.
