Clean oil and filters keep a screw compressor efficient and protect the air end. Change intervals depend on oil type, environment and duty cycle. Here is what the schedule should look like.
Recommended Intervals
- Mineral oil: every 2,000–4,000 operating hours.
- Synthetic oil: every 6,000–8,000 hours or per manufacturer.
- Air and oil filters: replace with every oil change.
Factors That Shorten Life
- High ambient temperature and dust.
- Continuous high-load operation.
- Humid or corrosive environments.
Signs It Is Time
- Oil darkens, thickens or smells burnt.
- Pressure drop rises across filters.
- High oil temperature alarms.
Can I extend the oil change interval?
Only with oil analysis confirming the oil is still fit. Always follow the manufacturer guidance.
