When a compressor cannot reach working pressure, the cause is usually one of a few common faults. Work through this checklist from the simplest to the most complex to find it quickly.
Check the Basics
- Is the intake filter blocked or the inlet valve stuck?
- Is the air demand higher than the machine capacity?
- Are there large leaks in the distribution piping?
Check the Drive and Air End
- Confirm the motor is reaching full speed and direction is correct.
- Inspect belts for slippage.
- Check for internal air end wear or a failed pressure relief valve.
Check the Controls
- Is the pressure sensor or regulator reading correctly?
- Is the minimum pressure valve holding?
- Review load/unload and VSD settings.
Why does pressure drop only when multiple tools run?
That points to undersized capacity or high demand. Check your total flow requirement against the compressor FAD.
