A compressor that runs but delivers no air usually has an inlet or drive problem. Work through this checklist to find the cause.
Check the Inlet
- A stuck inlet valve blocks air from entering.
- A blocked intake filter starves the machine.
- The air end may not be receiving drive.
Check the Drive
- A broken coupling or belt stops the air end turning.
- The motor runs but the air end does not.
- Confirm rotation direction is correct.
Check Valves and Seals
- A failed minimum pressure valve can dump air.
- Internal seals may be leaking.
- Check for a stuck relief valve.
Why does the motor run but no pressure builds?
Usually a broken drive coupling, a stuck inlet valve or a failed air end seal.
