Air Compressor for Paint Booth: Selection Guide

Paint booths demand clean, dry compressed air to avoid finish defects. The compressor must supply steady flow to spray guns while the dryer and filters keep the air spotless.

Flow Requirements

  • Spray guns need a steady CFM at the spray pressure.
  • Size for the number of guns in use together.
  • Add a margin for regulator and filter losses.

Air Quality

  • Oil and water cause fisheyes and rough finishes.
  • Use a desiccant or refrigerated dryer plus coalescing filters.
  • Point-of-use filters protect the final coat.

System Design

  • Storage tank to smooth pressure.
  • Clean piping that does not corrode.
  • Regular drain and filter maintenance.

What dew point is needed for painting?

Often below 3 °C, with desiccant drying preferred for high-quality finishes.
