Regular oil changes are the single most important maintenance task for a screw compressor. This step-by-step guide covers the procedure safely.
Preparation
- Shut down and isolate the machine from power.
- Relieve all pressure and allow the oil to cool slightly.
- Have the correct oil grade, filters and a drain container ready.
Draining and Flushing
- Open the drain and empty the old oil completely.
- Replace the oil filter and air/oil separator on schedule.
- Flush if switching oil types or after contamination.
Refilling
- Fill to the correct level with the specified oil.
- Run the machine briefly and recheck the level.
- Record the hours and oil used in the log.
Can I mix different compressor oils?
No. Mixing incompatible oils can cause deposits and damage. Use the oil grade specified by the manufacturer.
