Air compressor specifications use several units that are easy to mix up. Flow and pressure are different quantities, and confusing them leads to the wrong purchase. This guide explains each unit and how to convert between them.
Flow Units
- CFM means cubic feet per minute.
- m³/min is cubic metres per minute, used internationally.
- 1 m³/min equals about 35.31 CFM.
Pressure Units
- PSI means pounds per square inch.
- Bar and MPa are metric; 1 MPa equals 10 bar.
- 1 bar equals about 14.5 PSI.
Why the Difference Matters
- Flow determines how many tools run at once.
- Pressure determines whether the tools work correctly.
- Never compare machines by power alone; always check FAD at your pressure.
How do I convert m³/min to CFM?
Multiply m³/min by 35.31. For example, 3 m³/min is about 106 CFM.
