How a Rotary Screw Airend Works

The airend is the heart of a rotary screw compressor. Two precisely machined rotors mesh inside a housing to squeeze air into a smaller space.

The Compression Cycle

Air enters through the inlet and fills the cavities between the rotors. As the rotors turn, the cavities shrink and the air pressure rises until it leaves through the discharge port.

Sealing and Cooling

In oil-injected designs, oil seals the clearances and carries away heat. In oil-free designs, timing gears keep the rotors apart and cooling happens outside the compression chamber.

Why Precision Matters

Rotor profile, coating and clearance directly affect efficiency, noise and service life, so the airend quality defines the machine.
